Persistent Eosinophilia is a Challenging Problem
نویسنده
چکیده
Eosinophilia is defined as an AEC >500/μL [1]. The severity of eosinophilia has been arbitrarily divided into mild (AEC: 5001,500/mm3), moderate (AEC: 1,500-5,000/mm3), and severe (AEC: >5,000/mm3) [2]. HE is defined as >1.5 x 109/L eosinophils in the blood on 2 examinations (interval >1 mo) and/or tissue HE. Subtypes of HE are hereditary (familial); primary (clonal/ neoplastic) HE, secondary (reactive) HE; hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES) and HE of undetermined significance (HEUS) [3]. HEUS is a novel term in lieu of idiopathic hypereosinophilia [4]. Most eosinophilias are reactive [5]. 1Secondary (reactive) HE

Persistent Marked Peripheral Eosinophilia due to Tuberculosis: A Case Report
We report a case of a 68-year-old female who was a known case of diabetes mellitus and chronic liver disease and presented with complaints of dry cough and other constitutional symptoms since one month. During initial investigations, the patient was found to have peripheral blood eosinophilia. Upon investigating further, the patient was found to have mediastinal lymphadenopathy and fine-needle a...
متن کاملMyeloid Sarcoma Presenting with Lateral Cervical Mass and Eosinophilia; a Diagnostic and Therapeutic Dilemma: Case Report
Myeloid sarcoma is a rare extramedullary tumor of immature myeloid cells. It has been very rarely reported as lateral cervical mass in English literature. Myeloid sarcoma has also been reported with marked eosinophilia. Here we present a 17 year old boy with lateral cervical mass and persistent eosinophilia. The mass was isointense in MRI and homogenously enhanced after contrast injection which...
متن کاملEarly Persistent Blood Eosinophilia in Necrotizing Enterocolitis Is a Predictor of Late Complications.
BACKGROUND Eosinophils infiltrate intestinal tissue during necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) and adult bowel diseases. We theorized that epithelial damage causes eosinophilic activation and recruitment at NEC onset. OBJECTIVE We studied the relationship between persistent blood eosinophilia and medical or surgical complications during NEC. METHODS NEC cases and controls at MU Children's Hospi...
متن کاملMycosis fungoides with an unusual clinicopathological presentation
It is a challenging task to diagnose mycosis fungoides (MF), a type of primary cutaneous lymphoma, in the early stages of its development, due to the unspecific presentations associated with the disease. Histopathology and immunohistochemistry conduce to a more definite diagnosis. Presence of atypical T-cells in epidermis and upper dermis is the most significant pathologic finding. Herein...
متن کاملA case of myelodysplastic syndrome with marked eosinophilia showing favorable prognosis
Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) with eosinophilia is a rare condition and has yet to be classified under the 2008 World Health Organization classification. However, reports have described the prognostic significance of chronic persistent eosinophilia in MDS. Here, we report a case of a 67-year-old woman who was admitted to the hospital in July 2007 with generalized weakness, dizziness, and dyspn...
